  • How would you confront a friend with an eating disorder?

Only have time for a quick post today.

I would take them to lunch, and then I would ask them if they were going to finish their fries, knowing damn well that they are not going to, then I would proceed to pick out all the crunchy burnt fries from their plate and eat them.

Society puts a lot of emphasis on being thin, and I not really one to make waves, so I would probably just complement them on their weight loss, and tell stories about their chunkier days.

  • Tobacco companies went to court to continue advertising near high schools. Why would they do that?

Since I have been away for so long, I think I will get my feet wet with the featured question, since that is what inspired me to start blogging in the first place.

I love FQs about smoking and tobacco companies. I smoked at least one pack of cigarettes a day for 20 years, and I loved every puff. I do regret the toll that smoking has taken on my overall health, but I do not regret the wonderful feeling that I experienced when I deeply inhaled a breath of smoke and felt the tingling in my fingertips as the blood soaked up that nicotine and dozens of other harmful chemicals like a sponge.

The truth about smoking is that it is bad for you, it does make you breath and hair stink like an ashtray, makes your fingertips and teeth yellow, it gives crows feet and other assorted wrinkles, it bad for every major and minor organ system in the body, it is expensive, it is no longer welcomed anywhere, and it gives you an overall appearance of grossness. With all that said, Why would Tobacco companies want to advertise near High Schools?

The answer is very simple, only high school age kids that are trying to fit in or stand out would by in to the whole “Smoking is Cool” campaign. Tobacco companies want to advertise near schools, because they need kids to start smoking to ensure future profits. They do not have an obligation to the health of the young people, they have only have an obligation to profits and fat paydays for investors. That is whey they do it. I am sure that is not why they say they do it…….but I will guarantee that is the one and only True reason.

Dante is proud to be smoke-free for almost 6 months. I no longer miss it and have not felt this good in at least 15 years.

I have missed you guys. It feels so good to be back.

  • American Idol vs Presidential Elections

While enjoying my morning coffee and reading the news on Yahoo, I did notice that a new American idol was crowned last night. It as if the show has broken its own record by racking up 97 million votes for the season 7. It got be thinking about the priorities of many people in this country. I started thinking about American Idol votes versus votes for Presidential Elections. A quick Google search brought me to a list of votes cast in all Presidential Elections since 1960. Not surprisingly, when I sorted by number of votes and added American Idol 7, AI7 made the list at number 4. So my question to you, Did you vote in the last election? Did you vote for the new American Idol?

  • Back from hiding…

Last week I wrote a blog about using Wikipedia as the primary source for a college research paper and admitted to making up the bibliography.  Some of the comments that I received made me a little nervous about be discovered and so I changed the blog to private…….I hated that fact that I had to go into hiding, so the entry, boring as it may be, is back……I feel better now.  I need to be inspired to blog…..

  • My secret shared with all of you……

After many weeks of complaining about my Biology class, I am happy to report that it is complete.  I have been on a ten year hiatus from school, and finally felt the need to return.  I have been ashamed of the fact that I did not finish for along time and I need to get some closure on the situation.  I am actually pretty close to BS in management, but may take a little longer than expected since I am considering changing my major to Public health Administration.

Biology was bit more involved than I had hoped and at many points during the course I had considering dropping out. I did decide to stick it out, and figured that if I could pass biology, then I could pass anything.  At this point I am very confident that i have passed, most likely I will have earned a B at the least, very possible that I receive an A in this course.  OK, so what is my secret?  This post was supposed be about a secret.

I wrote a 10 page paper for my biology class and used wikipedia as my only source reference.  I totally made up the bibliogrphy.  It has been a while since I have been school, and they definitely did not have wikipedia when i last attended school.  But i am going to go out on a limb and say that a wiki is not a generally accepted source of reference for college level research.

Ahhh. It feels so good to get that off my chest.  I still bet I pass…..if I knew this was going to be so easy, I would have done this 10 years ago.

Who wants to go for the first ride?

You are advised to contact Mr Paul Wilson, Email: pga34@live.com for

  • What would the title of your autobiography be?

I would name my autobiography If you want to be seen, Stand Up. If you want to be heard, Speak Up. If you want to be appreciated, Shut Up.

Between school ending, the wedding this weekend, and 23 relatives visiting form out of town, I have not had one minute for my self.  Even answering the featured question is limited to like 30 secs.  Lucky for me, I can be brief yet witty while under pressure.

  • Recommend with Comments

This is my third blog of the day.  I seem to have a lot of spare time today, hopefully tomorrow will be the same.  I have an idea for an improvement to the recommend feature.  I think it should allow you to recommend with comments.  I think the feature assumes that all recommendations are just plain “Positive.”  Basically, if you enjoy something, you should recommend it to your friends.  I  may read something that is I totally disagree with, with ever fiber of my being, and I would want to recommend it to my friends, but attach my opinion to the top as opposed to where ever  I may fall in the comments section.  I am not suggesting that you change the recommend feature, so people can add a nasty remark and then forward, I just think that recommendations get made for various reasons and the recommender should have the opportunity to write why they are recommending something, and not just blindly saying, “I like this, you should also read it.”  What do you think?  How do you submit an this type of a request to Xanga?  I have heard on several occasions that it is ideas form the Xanga community that give the designers ideas for enhancements……
